Post-Doc position (closed)

The Mathematical Physics Group at Modena and Reggio Emilia University and Bologna University has an opening for a 2-year Post-Doc position.

Description:

The postdoctoral researcher will work on Statistical Mechanics Models and Stochastic Processes. It is expected that the postdoc will strongly interact with the local research team. Examples of problems which are of interest to the group are:
- dual stochastic processes (branching and coalescence) in the context of mathematical population genetics. A novel technique for the construction of a dual process, successfully tested for interacting particle systems, is available and can be further developed by the Post-Doc;
- disordered systems (spin glasses) and diluted models on random graphs;
- statistical mechanics models for social science (extension of the discrete choice theory).

Requirements:

We are looking for a candidate who meets the following requirements:
- a PhD in Mathematics or Physics (obtained or soon to be obtained in an area related to the proposed research).
- a shaped scientific personality, independent thinker;
- author of recent publications in the international literature;
- a strong theoretical background but also an interest in application-oriented research, in particular in social science.

Salary and Application:

We offer a two-year Post-Doc position and a gross salary up to 59.000 euro. For further information about the position, interested candidates can contact Prof. Cristian Giardina' (cristian.giardina@unimore.it, tel +39 347 6515626) or Prof. Pierluigi Contucci (contucci@dm.unibo.it, tel +39 331 6426365).
Please send us your application, including a cover letter, extended curriculum vitae, a list of publications and the contact information of two references, preferably by January 15, 2011 via email.
